In a significant development, Australia have announced a strong 18-member preliminary squad for the ODI World Cup. The squad, also set to feature in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa and India, will be led by Pat Cummins, while middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the team.

Cummins has been named the captain, but he needs six weeks to recover from the wrist fracture he sustained during the recently-concluded Ashes series. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell will miss the South Africa ODIs due to paternity leave.

The squad sees the inclusion of some dynamic batters, David Warner, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, with experienced players like Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Agar and Cameron Green set to play as all-rounders. Young Western Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie has also been included alongside promising spin bowler Tanveer Sangha.

The fast bowling department comprises familiar names, as Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott will spearhead the attack alongside skipper Cummins.
