Despite having an underwhelming One-Day International (ODI) series against West Indies in the Caribbean, India's Shubman Gill has breached the Top 5 rankings in the latest ICC ODI Rankings for Batters.
Gill, with 743 points is ranked fifth in the ICC ODI Rankings, behind Pakistan's opening duo of Iman-Ul-Haq (745) and Fakhar Zaman (755). Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (886) continues to lead with a massive margin, with South Africa's explosive batter Rassie van der Dussen (777) occupying the second spot.
The 23-year-old finished the ODIs as second-highest run-scorer (128). Apart from Gill, India's leading run-getter in the 3-ODI series Ishan Kishan has also made huge gains. Kishan, who scored 184 runs, is now placed on career-best ranking of 36.
Gill is now the highest ranked Indian ODI batter, ahead of Virat Kohli (9) and Rohit Sharma (11).
Other Indian Gainers on ODI Rankings
All-rounders Hardik Pandya made a massive rise in ICC ODI Rankings for All-Rounders, moving to No.11 on the list. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also entered the Top 10 for ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers. Yadav's seven wickets in the series see the left-arm wrist-spinner move to No.10.
Meanwhile, Gill's poor-run continues with the bat in the ongoing five-T20I series as well, scoring 16 runs in the completed three matches.
In 27 ODIs since 2019, Gill has scored 1,437 runs with four centuries, one double-ton, and six fifties.
