'Players Will Not Respect Coaches' - Javed Miandad Slams PCB's New Coach Appointments

After Pakistan's disastrous run at the World Cup 2023, PCB wanted a new vision. In view of the same motive, the management took some decisions and sacked all the previous coaches. Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the new director of the men's team and will take over the coaching role as well.

In December 2021, Mohammad Hafeez was still playing for the Pakistan team and within the span of two years, he has been appointed as the director of the team. Javed Miandad, the former Pakistan captain, has shown disbelief in the new appointments considering their age.

The new appointments include Wahab Riaz as the chief selector, Umar Gul as the bowling coach, Saeed Ajmal as the spin bowling coach and Sohail Tanvir as the head of the junior selection committee. While some of these former players are still playing in the T20 leagues around the world, Miandad claims that players will not respect the coaches.

Here's what Javed Miandad said about the new appointments by the Pakistan Cricket Board:

"There should be a significant age difference between coaches and players. If there is no age gap, players will not respect the coach. Those who doesn't understand cricket removed Babar Azam from captaincy. Sarfaraz Ahmed should not only be included in the team against Australia, but due to his experience, he should have been the captain."

Miandad showed disappointment over removing Babar Azam from captaincy and also said that Sarfaraz Ahmed should be appointed as the Test captain. Furthermore, the former cricketer claimed that appointing foreign coaches for the national team is nothing but an insult to the senior players.

Team Pakistan will be visiting Australia for a three-match Test series and the Pakistan team will be heading for their first assignment after new appointments with Shan Masood as the Test captain.
