Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead a young Indian team against Australia for a five-match T20I series to commence their post-World Cup 2023 cricketing ventures. The senior white-ball star was appointed as captain after a number of senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, opted themselves out of the squad.

A day prior to the series opener, Yadav praised regular skipper Sharma for leading the side by example at the 2023 World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav reflects World Cup 2023 final defeat

During the pre-match press conference, India’s interim skipper Suryakumar Yadav praised regular captain Rohit Sharma for leading the side by example throughout the 2023 World Cup.

While speaking in Press Conference, Suryakumar said:

“Rohit bhai led by example in this World Cup - What he has done in this WC was completely different. He literally walked the talk, what was spoken in team meetings, he did that on the ground. As a leader, He led by example.”

Suryakumar Yadav also added that India’s defeat at the World Cup 2023 final to Australia will not be forgotten overnight, and the players will definitely be taking time to heal from their setback. He added:

“It is difficult. It will take time to heal. It can't be that you get up next morning, and forget everything that happened.”

Under Sharma, the Indian team stormed into the finals of the 2023 World Cup with an unbeaten run. However, on the big day, they were humbled by an insurgent Australian unit in Ahmedabad.

Regardless, the Indian team will now be taking on Australia for a fresh challenge to mark their first set of international fixtures since the conclusion of the tournament.

The first of their five T20I matches will be played on November 23 at Vishakhapatnam’s VDCA Cricket Stadium. The series will also serve as a testing ground for the players from both camps in their path towards next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.
