'Zero Credibility': Mohammad Asif Slams PCB For Hafeez's Sudden Promotion

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif has openly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the appointment of Mohammad Hafeez as the director of the Pakistan team. Asif expressed his astonishment and scepticism about Hafeez's new role, suggesting that the PCB has completely lost its credibility under the leadership of PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf.

Asif questions PCB's credibility in new role for Hafeez

Hafeez, who recently served on the technical committee, has replaced Micky Arthur in the dual role of team director and head coach. This decision comes in the wake of Pakistan's disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup, where they failed to progress beyond the group stages.

The PCB has also indicated that Pakistan's coaching staff will collaborate with the National Cricket Academy, and new coaching appointments will be announced shortly. In the interim, Hafeez will also assume coaching responsibilities for Pakistan's tours of Australia and New Zealand.

Taking to Twitter, Asif pointed out the apparent inconsistency in Hafeez's recent career moves, highlighting that he resigned from the technical committee in September only to be rehired in a more significant position in November. He implied that under the current chairman, the PCB lacks the necessary credibility and authority to effectively manage its operations.

“Someone resigns in Sep from technical committee and is hired back as director of cricket cum head coach in Nov? Under this chairman PCB is left with zero credibility and authority to run its affairs,” wrote Asif.

Meanwhile, in addition to Hafeez's appointment, Wahab Riaz has been named as the chief selector, taking over from Inzamam ul Haq, who resigned after Pakistan's poor World Cup performance.

PCB has also announced significant leadership changes in the team, with Shan Masood being appointed as the Test captain and Shaheen Afridi taking over as the T20I skipper. These changes followed Babar Azam's decision to step down as Pakistan’s captain.
