'Didn't Understand Why Jadeja' - Gautam Gambhir Slams Rohit's 'This' Move In WC Final

Team India despite having a near-perfect World Cup 2023, failed to perform in the finals of the World Cup final. With ten wins on the trot, India were doing everything right but it wasn't their day. The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes promoting Ravindra Jadeja did not go India's way.

The Indian team in the first ten games capitalised on the middle-overs and kept the run rate going. On the other hand, in the final against Australia, they were too cautious and were not able to score runs in the middle overs.

Rohit Sharma kept Suryakumar Yadav for smashing bowlers at the death and sent Ravindra Jadeja ahead of him. Even Jadeja got out after scoring nine off 22 deliveries and then Surya had to play more carefully as there were no batters around him.

Here's what Gautam Gambhir said about Rohit's decision to promote Ravindra Jadeja:

“I didn't understand why Jadeja was sent ahead of Suryakumar Yadav. Why was he demoted to No. 7? That was nowhere the right call for me.”

The World Cup winner, Gautam didn't understand the call to send Jadeja ahead of the number one ranked T20 batter Surya, if he would have played the amount of deliveries Jadeja faced, India could have been in a better position.

“Imagine if KL Rahul as batting with a certain tempo with Kohli then it makes even more sense to sent Suryakumar in and ask him to play aggressive cricket, play his natural cricket because you still have Jadeja. It is very easy to say for an expert to say that Suryakumar struggled. But the player's mindset is that if he gets out the next batters are Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj and Kuldeep. However, if he knows that the next batsman in is Jadeja then he would have had a different mindset. If you were not confident in Suryakumar at No. 6 then you might as well should have picked someone else.”

He further added that Surya would have played his natural game if he would have been sent on number six rather than demoting him which affected his mindset as he had to play alongside the tail.
