Pune, Maharashtra-born Shubham Ranjane has earned his maiden call-up to the USA national team after completing his residency requirements in the country. The 31-year-old, who was once signed by IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, never got the chance to feature in the tournament but did participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during the 2024–25 season.

Primarily a domestic cricketer, Ranjane has now found an opportunity to represent the USA after featuring in 15 First-Class and 23 List A matches as an all-rounder.

Shubham earns his place in USA squad after three years

Shubham spent the last three years playing in America’s domestic circuit and is known for his effective medium pace with the ball and his reliability as a power hitter. His skills came to prominence when he was drafted mid-season into the MLC 2022, where his strong performances for the Seattle Thunderbolts helped the franchise clinch the title.

Notably, Shubham Ranjane has also secured ILT20 and SA20 contracts this year, cementing his reputation as one of the rising stars in the global franchise circuit. He was also picked as the No. 1 draft choice by the Texas Super Kings after being released by Seattle ahead of the 2024 edition.

USA cricket under cloud of uncertainty

As the U.S. cricket team prepares to face Nepal, its position at the top of the ICC WCL 2 table is overshadowed by both squad changes and administrative chaos.

The selectors have dropped Aaron Jones, a surprising move, and veteran Shadley van Schalkwyk, whose omission paves the way for younger players. This comes amid a turbulent period for the sport in the country, with the national board suspended by the ICC and embroiled in legal battles with MLC.
