India’s former captain Rohit Sharma slammed a half-century against Australia in the second ODI match at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Despite losing two early wickets, Rohit and Shreyas Iyer remained calm and played an incredible knock to help India post 264 runs on the board.

While the runs might not be enough for the bowlers to defend, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif was impressed with Rohit’s batting under pressure and praised his performance. The right-handed batter missed a well-deserved century as Mitchell Starc dismissed him.

Mohammad Kaif lauds Rohit Sharma’s performance against Australia

While the entire country was happy for Rohit’s performance against Australia, Mohammad Kaif reminded everyone that he isn’t ‘going anywhere.’ After taking retirement from Test and T20I cricket, there were many reports on Rohit Sharma’s ODI retirement plans. However, the 38-year-old batter shut down the trolls with a magnificent 73 off 97 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes.

“Too much social media chatter about his future, tough pitch, world class pacers operating, Gill and Kohli out cheaply... Despite all that Rohit plays a very important inning for India and his career. This 73 at Adelaide will give him a lot of confidence. Rohit shows he isn’t’ going anywhere,” tweeted Kaif.

Can India level the ODI series against Australia?

India have scored 264 runs in the first innings, which is a good total at the Adelaide pitch. However, Australia have some really talented batters in the team who can chase down the target. As we write, they have lost four wickets, but Matt Renshaw and Cooper Connolly are on the crease and looking to build a partnership.

For India to win the match from here, the bowlers need quick breakthroughs and not let the batters form a partnership. Australia’s batting line-up looks deep, but only wickets can save India from a series defeat. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see which side the match ultimately tilts in favour of.
