On Thursday, October 23, WTC defending champions South Africa secured a win in the 2nd Test against Pakistan, levelling the series at 1-1. It was a dominating display by the Aiden Markram-led side as they handed the hosts an eight-wicket defeat.

On Day 4, the Proteas triggered a collapse and restricted Pakistan to just 138 runs. Courtesy of the 70-run lead, the rainbow nation required only 68 runs to win. With the victory, South Africa registered their first win in Pakistan after 18 years. 

Also, the win marked South Africa's first win in the new World Test Championship cycle. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on the updated WTC standings following Pakistan's defeat and the Proteas' win.

India and South Africa climb, Pakistan suffer a fall

Courtesy of Pakistan's defeat, the Shan Masood-led side, who were placed 2nd on the table after winning the 1st Test, have slipped three spots below and are now placed 5th on the table. Pakistan have a win and a defeat in their two matches, resulting in a 50%. 

Meanwhile, South Africa have opened their account and have the same points as Pakistan, but placed fourth on the table. India, on the other hand, have climbed back to the third spot with 61.9 PCT as they have four wins in seven matches.

New Zealand are the only team yet to open their account in the new WTC cycle, while West Indies is the only side to have no points despite playing five Tests in the 2025-27 WTC cycle. Meanwhile, Australia and Sri Lanka continue to dominate the new cycle with no defeats so far. 

Talking about Pakistan and South Africa, then the Proteas' next challenge will be against India starting from November 14. Meanwhile, Pakistan will next play against Bangladesh in March 2026.
