The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was reportedly considering Gautam Gambhir for the position of head coach for the Indian cricket team.

This decision came as several overseas coaches had withdrawn from contention, leaving the BCCI with a limited pool of candidates to replace the outgoing coach, Rahul Dravid.

Gambhir, known for his tactical insights and leadership abilities, currently mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2024 IPL season.

During his tenure with LSG, Gambhir was offered a blank cheque by KKR's co-owner, Shah Rukh Khan, to secure his services for the next decade.

According to reports from Dainik Jagran, Gautam Gambhir had expressed interest in the India head coach job but only if he was guaranteed 100% selection for the role. Gambhir had made it clear that he would not apply if he was considered just one of several candidates.

As the BCCI stepped up its efforts to secure a contract with Gambhir, it was been revealed that KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan had made a significant move to retain him at the IPL franchise.

The Bollywood actor reportedly offered the former cricketer a blank cheque' to ensure his stay with KKR for the next ten years.

The BCCI has already faced rejections by the likes of Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer and Stephen Fleming over potentially succeeding Rahul Dravid as India's head coach. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, however, denied making an offer to any former Australian cricketer.
