MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are celebrated captains in Indian cricket, both achieving considerable success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket. Dhoni, renowned for his calm demeanor and strategic brilliance, has led India to three ICC titles and five IPL trophies.
Virat Kohli, known for his aggressive leadership and remarkable performance in Test cricket, elevated India's status in the format despite not winning an ICC title under his captaincy.
Moeen Ali's Choice: MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan
Moeen Ali, who has had the opportunity to play under both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in the IPL, recently shared his thoughts on the best captains he has encountered. During an interview following his retirement announcement, Ali was asked about the greatest captain he had played under.
He named Eoin Morgan as the best captain he experienced in his England career, but he also expressed high regard for MS Dhoni.
"Yeah, him [Eoin Morgan] and MS Dhoni obviously. But for England, yeah, Morgs was outstanding. Unbelievable captain, leader, had everything that a great leader has and all the attributes that is needed to be, and what he achieved."
Ali's tenure with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2019 and 2020 saw him contribute 212 runs and take 7 wickets. After being released by RCB, he joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021, where he has been an integral part of the squad, retained for INR 8 crore ahead of the 2022 Mega Auction.
Reflecting on his experiences, Ali praised both captains for their exceptional leadership qualities. He noted that while Morgan was outstanding for England, Dhoni's influence at CSK was equally significant.
