In a significant development, England have announced their playing XI for the first T20I against Australia at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Led by Phil Salt, England have handed debut T20I caps to three players- Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell and Jamie Overton.

Phil Salt, England's T20I captain in Jos Buttler's absence, will open the batting for the hosts alongside Will Jacks. While Salt brings incredible power-hitting to the table, Jacks will be an asset for the hosts due to his all-round prowess.

Jacks, who plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, can roll his arms for a few overs of off-spin besides scoring brisk runs at the top order. Barring the Surrey cricketer, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton will be crucial from England's perspective, thanks to their multi-dimensional game.

Cox, Bethell To Form England's Batting Core

Jordan Cox and Jacob Bethell, who have stellar numbers in The Hundred, will form England's batting core in the first T20I against Australia. Both batters can play impactful innings and, hence, can be serious threats to the Aussie bowling unit.

Jofra Archer To Spearhead England's Bowling Attack

Meanwhile, ace speedster Jofra Archer will spearhead England's bowling attack alongside Saqib Mahmood, Reece Topley and Adil Rashid. While Topley and Archer will bowl with the new ball, Adil Rashid can bamboozle the Australian batters with his variations in the middle overs.
