The countdown to the 2025 Champions Trophy is on, and cricket fans are eager to see the world's best teams compete. This year, Pakistan is set to host the tournament, adding to the excitement. However, the unique qualification criteria, tied to performances in the 2023 World Cup, have left some notable teams on the outside looking in.

Only the top seven teams from the group stage of the World Cup, along with host nation Pakistan, have earned their place in the tournament. As a result, several traditionally strong teams have been excluded, creating a major talking point in the cricketing world.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's absence from the Champions Trophy 2025 is one of the most shocking developments. A team with a rich history in the tournament, Sri Lanka won the event once (joint winner alongside India) and has often been a contender in ICC competitions. However, after a disappointing showing in the 2023 World Cup, where they struggled to find form and consistency, Sri Lanka failed to secure a spot in the top seven.

This marks the first time the team will not participate in an ICC event, signaling a significant decline in their performance in recent years.

West Indies

Another powerhouse missing from the Champions Trophy is the West Indies. Once a dominant force in international cricket, the West Indies have struggled to maintain their status as one of the top teams in the world. Their failure to qualify for the 2023 World Cup eliminated any chance of securing a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy. This continued decline is worrying for West Indies cricket, which has faced declining interest and performance over the past decade.

Zimbabwe, Scotland, Netherlands and Ireland Failed To For CT

In addition to the major cricketing nations, teams from the associate ranks, such as Ireland, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, and Scotland, also failed to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite their importance in expanding cricket’s reach, these teams were unable to secure spots under the strict qualification criteria, potentially slowing the growth of the sport in emerging cricketing nations.
