Bangladesh fans would be relieved to learn that their pride and premier allrounder Shakib Al Hasan went through an extensive batting session in the nets ahead of the next ICC World Cup 2023 league-stage encounter against India in Pune.

The Bangla Tigers' skipper, who has been battling an injured quad since the previous clash of the tournament with New Zealand in Chennai, batted for good 45 minutes without feeling any strain or fatigue two days out from much-anticipated clash with India.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Shakib tested his readiness to play with the lengthy batting drill during a practice session against pacers and spinners. While a final decision will be taken at the advice of the medical staff and team physio, the pivotal allrounder is keen to continue playing as Bangladesh strive to return to winning ways.

"He was out training on Tuesday and even indulged in a bit of football, but soon left," the report mentioned. "He then emerged with his pads on alongside Litton Das to have a net session. He began by facing underarm throws from Faisal Hossain, who is assisting fielding coach Shane McDermott at the World Cup."

Shakib eyeing India game despite quad tear

The Bangladeshi camp will be in a better position to assert Shakib's recovery from the quad tear suffered during the New Zealand match on the eve of the India game scheduled for Thursday (October 19).

However, a Bangladesh team management official said there was "no pain" that the cricketer experienced after undergoing his 45-minute session with the bat, which is an encouraging sign.

"There is no pain at the moment and what can be better news for us than that? We all were concerned whether his pain would increase or not after batting or running between the wicket," the official was quoted as saying after Shakib gradually found his"groove" in the nets.

After initial struggles with his timing, Shakib's first net session amidst injury cloud featured drives and cut shots of real "authority", the report said. The cricketer didn't bowl but ran without any trouble between the wickets while being observed by physio Bayzid Ul Islam in a promising training session.
