On Sunday, September 1, England beat Sri Lanka by 190 runs to win the second Test and lead the three-match series 2-0. With the win, the Three Lions have also secured the series with one game still to play.

The visitors have had a below-par series so far as they also struggled in the opening game as well. The Dhananjaya de Silva-led side have faced criticism for failing to match England's standards and producing a lacklustre performance.

Vaughan's Stance On Test Cricket

Reflecting on the result and the 2nd Test ending in four days, former England skipper turned analyst Michael Vaughan had a unique suggestion for ICC and urged the cricket's apex governing body to divide cricketing nations into two divisions of six and also to distribute the funds equally. Vaughan took to Twitter to express his point.

"Test cricket needs to be 2 Divisions of 6 ASAP .. and spread the wealth of the game more evenly across all countries ," tweeted Vaughan.

Vaughan's comments came as a suggestion to improve the Test cricket situation around the globe and have more teams compete with top nations.

Meanwhile, Vaughan is not the only cricketer to talk about introducing a football-like system in cricket, as former India coach Ravi Shastri too had voiced a similar opinion a few days ago.

Ravi Shastri's Suggestion To Improve Test Cricket

The 62-year-old called for reducing the number of Test-playing teams to six or seven with a promotion-relegation system to maintain the interest and quality of the traditional format that has suffered due to the rise of T20 leagues and financial incentives.

"When you don't have quality, that is when the ratings drop, there are fewer people in the crowd, it's meaningless cricket, which is the last thing the sport wants. You have 12 Test match teams. Bring it down to six or seven and have a promotion and relegation system," said Shastri.

Where Do England Stand on WTC Table After Sri Lanka Win?

After registering an emphatic win over Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test, England have moved to the fourth spot, only behind New Zealand, Australia, and India. The third Test against Sri Lanka will take place at The Oval on September 6.
