Michael Vaughan, the former England cricket captain, known for his outspoken nature, has often found himself in the spotlight for his views, both praised and criticised by fans.

He has once again voiced his strong opinions, this time aiming at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their handling of 'The Hundred' tournament.

His criticism comes in the broader context of the global rise of franchise cricket, led by the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The ECB's attempt to create a unique format with The Hundred, which deviates from the traditional T20 format by featuring 100 legal deliveries, has had mixed results.

Michael Vaughan Takes Brutal Dig At ECB

In a recent interview with Telegraph Cricket, Michael Vaughan criticised the ECB for their poor scheduling of The Hundred 2024 which clashed with the Paris 2024 Olympics.

He argued that while other cricket boards around the world strategically adjusted their schedules to avoid competition with the global sporting event.

The ECB chose to proceed which caused The Hundred to struggle even more in gaining the attention it needed.

“I'll be honest about this year's Hundred. I think the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) screwed up. I think they put it up against the Olympics. I just think that the scheduling of this year's Hundred was poor. When you think, you are trying to sell it for a lot of money. I think the ECB have got to make it very, very kind of brutal call. I don't think there should be bilateral one-day series anymore,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by The Telegraph Cricket.

Vaughan emphasised that the clash with the Olympics significantly reduced the tournament's viewership and momentum.
