Amidst the white ball success, Team India’s Test success is still under scrutiny. After two consecutive qualifications into the WTC final, Rohit Sharma and Co. failed to secure a place in the upcoming WTC final match. Their recent failure has raised a concern in the longest format.

Among the failures, Rohit Sharma’s form in the longest format has become a concern. In the past few series, the Indian skipper was seen struggling with his form in Test cricket. Before the upcoming red-ball season, former captain Sourav Ganguly has urged Rohit to step up, lead from the front, and rediscover his form in the longest format.

Ganguly Highlights Rohit’s Inconsistency

As Team India is crossing mountains with their unstoppable forms in white ball cricket, their form in the longest format has become a concern. After facing a disappointing whitewash against New Zealand on home soil, they lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. Along with that, they missed being qualified in the WTC final. Adding to the woes, Rohit Sharma’s Test struggles stand out. Ahead of India's next red-ball challenge, former skipper Sourav Ganguly has called out Rohit’s inconsistency, urging him to regain form.

“What has surprised me is his form in red ball over last 4-5 years. A player of his stature and ability, he can do much better than what he has done. He must put on his thinking cap because we have 5 Tests against England and that's going to be another hard series.” he said.

“Just like the way it was in Australia. It's going to seam; it's going to swing. India need him to perform in the red ball but in white ball, he is one of the greatest ever.” he added.

Urges Rohit To Take Responsibility

Rohit Sharma’s potential is known to everyone. But his form in the longest format has been a concern. In the recent five-match series against Australia, he managed just 31 runs in three matches at a dismal average of 6.20. Ahead of India’s Test clash with England, Sourav Ganguly has urged Rohit to regain form and lead the team back to its peak in the Test format.

“I'm not surprised that he's taken the side to greater heights in white ball. I don't know whether he's going to continue playing Test cricket but if he is hearing me, he should take the responsibility of turning things around in red-ball.” he said.

“India are not good at red-ball at the moment and they need to look at it, find a way to play well in England because that's going to be a very important five-Test series. Rohit has to find a way to get this team going.” he added.

After wrapping up the IPL, Team India will be back in the red-ball schedule. In June, Team India will face England in a five-match Test series. With the new WTC cycle kicking off, this series will be a crucial test for India's ambitions in the longest format.
