Harbhajan Amazed by Dhoni’s Unmatched Fitness
After the IPL 2024, there was a strong buzz over Dhoni’s retirement from IPL. but even this time Dhoni finishes off in style as the Chennai Super Kings retained him as an uncapped player for 4 crore. Even at the age of 43, Captain Cool is set to make waves on the field. But his fitness remains the main reason behind his prolonged career. His former teammate Harbhajan Singh expressed his amazement at Dhoni's exceptional fitness level.
“I just met him recently at one of our friend's daughter's weddings. He looked very fit, solid. I asked him, 'What you are doing at this age, isn't it tough?' He said, 'Yes, it's difficult, but this is the only thing I like doing. I find joy in it. I want to do it, go out and play.'” he said.
“As long as the hunger is there, you will be able to do it. It's hard without playing any cricket (throughout the year). He is showing how it's done. He must be doing something better than the others. He is not just surviving, he is dominating all the bowlers.” he added.
Dhoni’s Relentless Grind In The Nets
Even after playing so many years of cricket, Captain Cool is practicing in the nets with the same intensity. As the franchise started the camp ahead of the season, the former Indian skipper joined the team and was seen grinding hard in the nets. Recently, Harbhajan Singh highlighted Dhoni’s intense practice session every single day.
“The practice that he is doing for one-two months The more balls you play, you get that timing, flow, and sixes going. He bats 2-3 hours every day in Chennai. He is the first one to come to the ground and the last one to leave, even at this age. That's the difference.” he said.
After Dhoni passed on the captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the previous season and the Yellow Army is aiming to continue its years-long legacy under the young captain. Despite this, his valuable presence behind the stumps is an asset for the side. As the tournament commences within a few days, Chennai Super Kings will face Mumbai Indians in their inaugural clash on March 23.
