Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian cricketer and now a seasoned commentator, recently shared his insights on which players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. According to Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ravindra Jadeja are the three perfect candidates for the franchise's retention.

The IPL governing council released a detailed retention policy for the upcoming mega auction. All franchises, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have until 5:00 PM on October 31 to submit their full list of retained players.

With IPL setting a maximum retention cap of six players, Ajay Jadeja feels CSK will opt for three confirmed retentions and head into the mega auction with three RTM cards.

While talking to Colors Cineplex, Jadeja opined that MS Dhoni’s retention is a no brainer choice as IPL has now allowed retired players to fall into the uncapped category.

"One is MS Dhoni for sure. There is no doubt about that because firstly he has become an uncapped player now and he has shown for so many years that he doesn't desire to be No. 1 or No. 2 to make the team. So there is no doubt at that value," Ajay said.

Additionally, since Ruturaj Gaikwad is the captain and had a successful season in 2023, his retention is more or less confirmed. Interestingly, despite Ravindra Jadeja’s retirement from T20I, Ajay Jadeja vouched for the all-rounder’s retention.

"Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had a good year, so you will want to keep him as well. You cannot leave Ravindra, I am not talking about Rachin, I am talking about Jadeja. I feel these three are perfect for them," he added.

On the other hand, Maheesh Pathirana and Rachin Ravindra could be a couple of overseas players on CSK’s radar for a potential retention.

CSK to reportedly pursue Shami, Ashwin in mega auction

The IPL 2025 mega auction wave gained momentum earlier this week, as IPL released its retention policy. As for CSK, RevSports Global reported that the franchise is keen on acquiring Mohammad Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin in the auction.

Shami, who has been injured since the 2023 ODI World Cup, has been the lead pacer for Gujarat Titans, whereas Ashwin’s all-round prowess has been an invaluable asset for Rajasthan Royals.
