Former SRH coach Tom Moody believes Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav is in contention for India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.

The young speed demon recently bowled LSG to successive victories over Punjab Kings and RCB. Remarkably, the matches also marked the first two IPL outings of Yadav’s career, and he was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ in both appearances for his game-defining spells.

Moody believes Mayank Yadav in India’s contention

Former SRH coach and ex-Australian cricketer Tom Moody believes Mayank Yadav is in contention to land a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

While discussing about Yadav’s international prospects on ESPNCricinfo, Moody said:

"He (Mayank Yadav) is definitely in the conversation. Whether you take that risk punting on him or not is another conversation, because you also need to consider what skillsets you need in that reserve fast bowler - is it someone who is a power play bowler, or someone who has the ability to bowl at the death, all those subtle skillsets are important when you are talking about a T20 World Cup."

Mayank Yadav, who plays for Delhi in domestic cricket, made his IPL debut in the ongoing season through LSG’s home game against Punjab Kings.

The 21-year-old celebrated the occasion with a match-winning three-wicket haul, and backed up his spell with another three-fer against RCB in an away game.

Through his twin bowling success, Mayank Yadav also became the first in IPL history to win two ‘Player of the Match’ awards in his first two games.

As of now, Yadav and the rest of his LSG cohorts are gearing up to face Gujarat Titans in match number 21 of the IPL 2024 season. The much-awaited contest will be staged at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow on April 7.
