Maheesh Theekshana is set to take field for Sri Lanka in their upcoming home T20I series against India in Pallekele. The 23-year-old off-spinner recently represented his nation at the 2024 T20 World Cup, and subsequently took part in the LPL 2024 season for Galle Marvels.

A day prior to the series-opener against India, Theekshana attributed some of his off-spin success to former CSK captain and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.

Maheesh Theekshana joined the CSK franchise in 2022 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The cricketer has emerged as one of the leading off-spin exponents for the ‘Yellow Brigade’, picking up 25 wickets with an impressive economy rate of just 7.66.

While speaking on the Sony Sports network, Theekshana attributed some of his bowling success to former CSK captain MS Dhoni. The young spin wizard said that Dhoni thought him ways to tackle batters who would often employ sweep shots. Theekshana claimed that the legendary CSK veteran would advise him to bowl a bit fuller at such batters to counter their sweep. He said:

“I have learned a lot of things from Dhoni, he helped me to bowl to batters who would employ sweep shots - he asked me to bowl a big fuller & that is how I developed my Yorker - I gained the confidence by the plan of Dhoni and he guides you a lot.”

Maheesh Theekshana was included in Sri Lanka’s squad for their three-match T20I series against India. The first of the three matches will be staged at the iconic Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 27.

Theekshana has so far featured in 49 T20Is for Sri Lanka, claiming 45 wickets in the process at an impressive bowling average of 27.66
