Late on Day 1, former England captain, Joe Root provided a gem on the field when he took one of the remarkable catches taken at slips, on the bowling of Gus Atkinson to take back Gudakesh Motie in the Edgbaston Test.

As Motie - along with Jayden Seales - was looking to add some crucial runs in lower-order, Gus Atkinson steamed in with a killer bouncer, aiming for the batter's head. The Number 9 batter got awkward playing at it as he tried to fend it off by hoping in the air, but the ball took his glove and ballooned towards the keeper.

However, the keeper Jamie Smith got on the wrong foot, but Root - standing at slips - covered the mess by flying to his right and take a remarkable catch of Gudakesh Motie.

Apart from Motie's wicket, Atkinson also took care of the Windies mainstay batters - Mikyle Louis, Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder with a brilliant display of line and length.

Earlier on Day 1, the openers laid a fantastic foundation as they reached 71 for the loss of no wickets, but then the English bowlers ran riot, snapping five wickets inside 39 runs. However, Jason Holder and Joshua Da Silva then came to the rescue with their 109-run stand.

Holder turned out to be the best batter on the day with his 59, while Da Silva batted equally well for his 49 before falling one short of his second successive Test half-century on the tour.

As the day came towards its end, the Windies bowlers joined the party, scalping three English wickets cheaply as the scoreboard reads 38-3 at stumps.
