Young batting sensation, Shubman Gill, powered his way to a third Test century, leading India's charge on Day 3 of the second Test match against England in Vizag. The match witnessed an early setback for India as James Anderson swiftly removed Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, putting pressure on the Indian batting lineup.

However, Gill, initially unsteady, soon found his rhythm and anchored India's innings to a substantial total.

Alastair Cook praises Shubman Gill after 3rd Test ton

Despite a rocky start, Gill's exceptional century helped India set a formidable second-innings score of 255, leaving England with a challenging target of 399 for victory.

England's cricketing stalwart, Alastair Cook, while speaking to TNT Sports, was full of praise for Gill's innings. He highlighted the immense talent Gill possesses and acknowledged the weight of expectations placed on his young shoulders.

"Gill played beautifully. He has serious talent… and there was probably quite a lot of pressure on his shoulders,” said Cook.

Cook further pointed out the intense focus previously on Virat Kohli, evident from the numerous advertisements featuring him during the World Cup hosted in India. He recognized Gill as the emerging star who is expected to fill Kohli's shoes, a task that carries the immense pressure of a nation as passionate about cricket as India.

According to the legendary batter, handling such pressure is a hallmark of great players, a challenge previously faced by legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli, and one that Gill is now facing.

“At the World Cup [in India], all the billboards were of Kohli, but he’s the next one they want to step into his shoes. That’s a big thing to have the pressure of a country the size of India on your shoulders. As a young talent, that’s something that the likes of Tendulkar and Kohli have dealt with… and he now has to learn to deal with it," added the former southpaw.

Meanwhile, with the series currently levelled up, India's comeback in this match was crucial. Gill's century has not only silenced critics but also reignited hopes for India to level the series in what promises to be a gripping contest.
