Shubman Gill roared back into form by listing his first Test hundred in nearly a year. The cricketer tallied 104 crucial runs against England on Day 3 at Vizag, thus setting up a monumental 399-run target for the visitors.

The innings mark Gill’s first fifty-plus score since March 2023, and the third century of his overall Test career. After headlining India’s dominant day out, the 24-year-old said that he was pleased to get back amongst the runs but also lamented the timing of his dismissal considering it triggered a lower-order batting collapse within the Indian camp.

Shubman Gill believes India are ahead in Vizag

Summarising his day out against England after stumps, Shubman Gill lamented his choice of stroke (reverse sweep) that triggered his dismissal and the resultant Indian collapse at the stroke of Tea break.

The prodigious batting talent added that the surface was decent to bat but one has to apply himself before going big. He said:

“Definitely pleased. But I left some out there. I was set and I could have scored more because we lost wickets after I got out. We were not in the situation to play that stroke. There were only four to five overs to go to Tea and I could have avoided that shot. I think it’s a decent wicket to bat on. The run-scoring isn’t easy. You have to apply yourselves as the odd ball is turning and is keeping low.”

Shubman Gill also believes that the odds are currently stacked in favour of Team India, and he signified the importance of the opening session of Day 4. He added:

“I think we are pretty much in the game. It’s 70-30 at the moment in favor of us. The morning session will be crucial. There is some moisture in the morning and hopefully, our pacers and spinners will get early wickets tomorrow.”

Arriving to the crease in just the second over of the day after captain Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Shubman Gill produced 104 runs from 147 balls and crafted crucial partnerships with Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. Taking India to 211-4, his dismissal triggered a colossal lower-order batting collapse within the Indian camp as they slumped to 255 all out in the final session of Day 3.

England, in response, lost opener Ben Duckett for 28 at the hands of Ravichandran Ashwin and they will now resume their innings on the fourth morning with 332 more runs to get.
