Team India enveloped the Englishmen 106 runs within their target on Day 4 to seal the Vizag Test and level the five-match series 1-1.

Bumrah, Ravi Ashwin shatter BazBall’s Vizag uprising

Night watchmen Rehan Ahmed became England’s first run-chase casualty of the morning session after Axar Patel trapped him in front of stumps. Ravichandran Ashwin, after going wicketless in the first England innings, thereafter snapped dangermen Ollie Pope and Joe Root in successive overs as the visitors slumped to 154-4.

Overnight batter and unbeaten opener Zak Crawley, on the other hand, kept ticking off the runs as he crafted his second 70-plus score of the match. He belted eight boundaries and a six during his 73-run knock and staged England’s brief recovery alongside fellow ‘BazBall’ radical Jonny Bairstow.

Just as both Crawley and Bairstow looked all settled to take England to safety till lunch, the two cricketers were caught in front by Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.

Shortly after the lunch break, England captain Ben Stokes fell short of his crease courtesy of a sublime direct-hit from Shreyas Iyer. Bumrah accounted for the late wickets of Ben Foakes and Tom Hartley while Ashwin’s three-fer extended his career tally to 499 Test victims.

Their collective brilliance on the day helped Team India keep England down by 106 runs to level up their five-match series with three Tests to go.
