Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan sang praises for Virat Kohli, stating that he was a captain who fuelled the team's spirit, always rallying behind young talents, ensuring they got the chances they deserved.

Notably, Shikhar Dhawan marked his debut in the Indian team with MS Dhoni as captain, but it was under Virat Kohli's leadership that his career truly flourished. Both Kohli and Dhawan also shared the field for Delhi in domestic cricket.

In the aftermath of Team India's underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup 2021, Virat Kohli decided to step down from the captaincy in T20Is. Later, he also gave up the captaincy duties for ODIs and Tests.

Meanwhile, even with Virat Kohli stepping down from captaincy, the team culture he established, characterised by energy and fitness goals, persisted. Shikhar Dhawan shed light on this aspect in his conversation with the Times of India:

“Virat Kohli as captain has cultivated a youthful & energetic team environment. He encourages young talents, willing to back them & providing opportunities for them to flourish.”

Shikhar Dhawan, who was once a mainstay opener for Team India in limited-overs cricket, further went on to talk about his past partnerships with Rohit Sharma, the current captain of the Indian cricket team.

The Punjab cricketer attributed the Mumbai batter to his exceptional display in limited-overs cricket. Shikhar added:

“Rohit Sharma and I have formed one of the most successful opening partnerships for the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket as per me. I seriously give credit for a lot of my best performances to Rohit's support.”

While the younger talents have taken center stage, Shikhar Dhawan has silently found himself sidelined, maintaining a presence solely in the Indian Premier League, where he leads Punjab Kings.
