Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Aakash Chopra highlighted the possibility of Jitesh Sharma being excluded from India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad if KL Rahul makes a comeback and the team management opts for a solitary wicketkeeping batter.

Jitesh, the Vidarbha wicketkeeper-batter, succumbed to a duck in India's second T20I win over Afghanistan in Indore on January 14, after putting in an outstanding attacking 31-run performance in the first T20I match at Mohali.

In a YouTube video analysis, Aakash Chopra put forward the idea that Shivam Dube might claim a position in India's T20 World Cup squad ahead of Jitesh should the team opt for KL Rahul as the lone wicketkeeper.


Here’s what Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: 

"Jitesh gave away his wicket. Jitesh will have to be mindful that it's going to be difficult going forward because his race will be with KL Rahul and Sanju Samson. Ishan Kishan - maybe not, but Dhruv Jurel, who has now come in the Test team as well."


"It's going to be an amazing race in the first half of the IPL. In the end, it could be a shoot-out between Jitesh and Shivam Dube. I know they are not for the same role, but if KL Rahul comes as a wicketkeeper, the Indian team might consider going with just one keeper because they can't leave Shivam Dube out.”

Aakash Chopra further encouraged Jitesh to capitalize on opportunities and finish matches for Team India while expressing concern about his missed chances in the first two T20Is.
