Virat Kohli has had the worst-ever start to a T20 World Cup edition, raising concerns about his form as the tournament enters the Super Eight stage. However, former Indian batter Kris Srikkanth remains unfazed.

Assigned the role of opening alongside Rohit Sharma, Kohli has found it challenging to adapt to his new position in this ICC event. Despite his dominant performance in this year’s IPL, where he excelled as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener, Kohli has struggled to replicate that success in the World Cup.

Srikkanth comes in Kohli's defence

The start of the tournament has been far from ideal for the talismanic Indian batter. He has registered three single-digit scores in the three innings he has batted in the mega event so far.

With critics being vocal about Kohli’s poor run of form with the bat, former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth has come to the defense of the star batter, saying he will win matches for India but needs to be left alone.

"Virat is the king of kings. We are playing against Afghanistan tomorrow, and I don't think we should worry. Just leave him alone. He will score once again. He will win matches for India. Guys, just leave him alone,”  Kris Srikkanth was quoted as saying by PTI.

It wasn't just Kohli who struggled; the US leg of the tournament was tough for all the batters, as the pitches in New York posed significant challenges.

Now, with the remaining matches of the tournament scheduled to be played in the Caribbean, Kohli will look to overturn his fortunes by scoring a truckload of runs to silence his critics as India aims to win their second T20 World Cup. Kohli will be seen in action against Afghanistan in Barbados on June 20.
