Searching for big runs, two of India’s best-ever batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, were found sweating hard in the nets ahead of India’s first Super Eight clash against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on 20th June.

As a result, two days before the game, the entire Indian contingent was present to prepare for the match. The Men in Blue had an optional practice session, but that didn’t deter the stalwarts from attending. 

In a video released by Star Sports, Kohli and Rohit could be seen practising hard to counter the Afghanistan bowling challenge. The Indian openers were found to be playing a wide range of shots against chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and conventional shots against the throwdown specialists and Arshdeep Singh.

The way they practised indicates that they were preparing for the challenge they’re going to face against the likes of Noor Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi. 

Kohli and Rohit have been short of runs. While Rohit scored a half-century in one of the three games played in New York, Kohli could only register three single-digit scores. He struggled to adjust to the tricky conditions in New York. 

Fortunately for both Indian openers, Barbados will not be as tricky as New York was. Overall, the Barbados track has been a sporting pitch, with an average first-innings score of 172 in T20s since 2023.
