'Someone Should Tell Him To Bring...': Manjrekar 's Word Of Advice On Out of Touch Virat Kohli

India's stalwart Virat Kohli finds himself in the eye of the storm after three consecutive underwhelming performances in the T20 World Cup 2024. After failing against Ireland and Pakistan, Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck in his most recent match against USA.

The right-hander has looked like a pale shadow of his usual self so far. As Team India braces for a Group A showdown with Canada on Saturday, the focus is on Kohli, with cricketing circles buzzing with advice and critiques.

Sanjay Manjrekar suggests Virat Kohli needs a tactical u-turn

Leading the charge with a blast from the past, former Indian cricketer and noted pundit Sanjay Manjrekar has thrown his two cents into the ring.

Manjrekar, known for his forthright views much like his previous critiques of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, has suggested that Virat Kohli should turn back the clock to his earlier playing style.

In recent times, the 'run-machine' transformed his approach, ramping up his aggression to boost his strike rate, a strategy that shone brightly in this year's IPL where he hit a strike rate of 150.

"The problem with Virat Kohli is that there has been a lot of talk about his strike rate over the last two years, and he completely changed that during this IPL season. His strike rate had reached 150, although others had almost 200, but that is a different topic,” said Manjrekar in a chat with EspnCricinfo.

However, according to Manjrekar, this tactic has not translated well to the World Cup pitches. He opined that reverting to his older, more calculative style could be the key to unlocking Kohli's potential once again, especially until the pitches offer more consistent play.

“He probably must have come to the T20 World Cup with that same mindset, but given the pitches, the old Virat Kohli would have been much better. So, I feel someone should tell him to bring back that earlier version of himself and then change again when the pitches become flat," added the Indian veteran.

Meanwhile, with the match against Canada looming, all eyes will be on Kohli to see if he can shake off the rust and rediscover his golden touch, turning potential whispers of decline into roars of victory on June 15.
