Sanjana Ganesan on Bumrah [Source: @cricketchamber/x.com]
The all-important India tour of England kick-started with a Jasprit Bumrah show with the red cherry in hand as the Indian seamer ran riot and picked up a fifer to start the tour. Before the tour even started, everyone knew that Bumrah would hold the key for the visiting team and he proved his mettle with a fiery spell of bowling.
However, despite his brilliant performance, India won't be too happy as the pacer will only play 3 out of the 5 Tests, in order to manage his workload. Apart from the first Test at Headingley, the other two matches are not decided as India will feel his absence.
Former Indian cricketers have urged his wife, Sanjana Ganesan to reverse his decision and play in all the five Tests for India's betterment, and it seems like Sanjana conveyed the message to Bumrah ahead of the start of Day 4.
"Jasprit please play all five Tests, please, please, please," Sanjana Ganesan urged Bumrah to ponder on his decision to skip two-Test matches.
However, Bumrah ignored the request as he stated: "That is a conversation we'll have on another day," he said in a video posted by Sony Sports Network.
Recurring injuries, the cause of Bumrah's decision
Bumrah has an uncanny action and it puts pressure on his back. In 2022, the pacer suffered a serious back injury and he missed the Asia Cup that year.
However, he recovered and became a better bowler as the seamer was nearly unplayable during the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Border-Gavaskar Series in Australia. He bowled quite a few overs in Australia and this led to his old injury relapsing as the Indian seamer missed the Champions Trophy event, earlier this year.
Hence, to preserve himself for a longer run, Bumrah decided to play only three Test matches in England. Despite his stance, the fans and former cricketers are hoping that he reverses his decision and goes on to play in all five matches.
