England's pace spearhead Jofra Archer makes a stunning comeback to red-ball cricket in the ongoing County Championship Division One. Playing for Sussex, Archer delivered a stunning maiden over to mark his comeback after playing a decent hand with the bat.
Jofra Archer Impresses One And All With His Accurate Line And Length
It turned out to be his first major appearance in red-ball cricket after a gap of four years as England's pace spearhead Jofra Archer, after suffering from a plethora of injuries, made his comeback against Durham in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2025 at Chester-le-Street.
In the video posted by the County Championship on their social media platform account on X, Archer delivers an outstanding maiden over with the ball against the batter Emilio Gay, as he goes on to deliver another one after this one.
To the unversed, Archer recently suffered a thumb injury that hindered his participation in the ODI series against West Indies, where he couldn't feature in the entire leg.
The 30-year-old pacer, who has picked 42 wickets in 13 Tests so far, hasn't featured in the longest format since February 2021, when, until that point, he was a crucial aspect for the Three Lions.
It has been a rather unfortunate state for the right-arm pacer, where he has had to deal with plenty of injuries and fitness problems, which include his back and elbow. He has missed quite a bit of cricket in the past few years, owing to his health issues.
Earlier with the bat, Archer played a fine hand, scoring 31 off 34 deliveries with three boundaries and a six to his name, as Sussex posted 361 on the board before getting bowled out in 106.5 overs.
Archer In Contention For England Return
By the time of writing, Jofra Archer had bowled four overs for 11 runs and will be out to bowl after lunch on day two again. It will now be interesting to see if his comeback in this county game helps the right-arm pacer return to the national setup, where the English side is currently facing the visiting Indian lineup at Headingley in Leeds.
However, England's national selector, Luke Wright, revealed that Archer is in contention for the second Test between England and India, to be played from the 2nd of July in Birmingham.
