KL Rahul is not only a street-smart cricketer but also a brilliant mind-reader as the Bengaluru-born Indian batter used his smartness to deceive English spinner, Shoaib Bashir on Day 3 of the first Test between India and England at Headingley. KL Rahul knows quite a few languages and he utilized this skill to trick the opponent.

How KL Rahul's advantage of knowing Tamil deceived Bashir

In India's second innings, the team had a slender lead, however, they lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early and this brought in Sai Sudharsan at the crease. The Tamil Nadu batter was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and he had a point to prove.

With Sudharsan, the lefty at the crease, Ben Stokes introduced Shoaib Bashir, the right-arm off-break into the attack to get the match-up right. At that moment, KL wanted to communicate a message to Sudharsan and he couldn't do it in English or Hindi since Bashir, whose roots lie in Pakistan knew both languages.

Hence, to deceive him, KL Rahul gave the instructions in Tamil since the language was unknown to every English player, including Shoaib Bashir. The message was loud and clear as Sudharsan negated the spinner perfectly and played some delightful strokes.

When Dravid-Tendulkar used to talk in Marathi to trick Pakistan

This is not the first time an Indian batting pair has used a different language to misguide the opponent players. During their playing days, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar admitted that they used to talk in Marathi to deceive the Pakistan team.

Pakistan players were used to speaking in Hindi and English and hence to communicate, the Indian duo spoke in Marathi, a language which was alien to the opponent. KL Rahul took a leaf out of it and used the same method to guide his batting partner.
