Ishan Kishan continues to remain on the sidelines ever since his central contract was terminated by the BCCI earlier this year. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter failed to make a cut in India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June as well as for the subsequent white-ball series in Sri Lanka.

Kishan’s repeated exclusions began after the dynamic batter opted himself out of India’s tour of South Africa back in December 2023. Moreover, the cricketer also reportedly refused to take part in domestic cricket despite BCCI’s request, and was spotted partying in Dubai around the same time period.

Former Pakistan player Basit Ali is of the opinion that Ishan Kishan is more interested in “fashion” rather than playing cricket, which eventually led to his downfall.

Basit Ali gives brutal take on Ishan Kishan

While speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali gave a brutal take on Ishan Kishan’s repeated exclusions from the Indian team. He claimed that the wicketkeeper-batter seems to be more interested in “fashion” that led to his downfall from Indian cricket. Basit Ali said:

“Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. He too got into fashion a bit.”

Ishan Kishan recently took part in the IPL 2024 season for the Mumbai Indians franchise where he tallied just 360 runs in 14 matches at a dismal average of 22.85.

The Indian team, meanwhile, is currently on a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka under a new regime. Under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir, the ‘Men in Blue’ won the first two matches to seal the three-match T20I series with a game to spare.

As of now, it remains to be seen when Ishan Kishan will jump back into contention for India’s squad going ahead. The 26-year-old has so far featured in two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20I matches for Team India. His last international outing occurred back in November 2023 at Guwahati with a T20I against Australia.
