Jadeja, Samson And? 5 Players Who Will Be Dropped From India's Champions Trophy 2025 Squad

After securing an emphatic 4-1 series win against Zimbabwe, India are set to cross swords against Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series next month. This series holds significant importance for the Men in Blue as it offers them a golden opportunity to finalise their core for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year.

However, in a massive development, the Indian management has made up its mind to move on from ace allrounder Ravindra Jadeja in ODIs.

Barring the southpaw, several players won't likely be a part of India's Champions Trophy squad, as mentioned below.

5 players who might not play Champions Trophy 2025

Ravindra Jadeja

Since debuting in 2009, Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital cog in India's ODI setup, amassing 2756 runs and scalping 220 wickets in 197 matches.

However, the veteran allrounder is no longer in India's ODI plans, with the management planning to permanently replace him with T20 World Cup hero Axar Patel.

So, considering Jadeja's age and Washington Sundar's emergence as a spin allrounder, it's doubtful that the former will represent India in the marquee event.

Sanju Samson

Stylish keeper-batter Sanju Samson has enjoyed stellar success in ODIs, garnering 510 runs at an outstanding average of 56.67 and a strike rate of 99.61.

However, despite his impressive returns, Samson failed to find a place in India's squad for Sri Lanka ODIs, with Rishabh Pant replacing him.

India's first-choice wicket-keeper KL Rahul has magnificent numbers at number five, while Pant scored a century in his last ODI outing.

So, it seems these two players are India's top two choices for the keeper role in ODIs. Given that the Men in Blue will play only three 50-over games, barring the SL series, Samson might not get the chance to prove his worth and could miss out on a Champions Trophy selection.

Ishan Kishan

The explosive keeper-batter was impressive in whatever chances he got in ODIs, even amassing the fastest double ton against Bangladesh.

However, some off-field issues led to his exclusion from the central contract, and he hasn't returned to the national setup since.

Therefore, considering the Champions Trophy is scheduled for February next year, it's highly unlikely that Ishan will regain the national reckoning.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The wily wrist spinner, India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, finally found a place in their T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

However, with Kuldeep Yadav making himself undroppable in white-ball cricket and Axar Patel emerging as India's first-choice spin-bowling allrounder, Chahal's time in national colours might just be over.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

The talented batter from Maharashtra recently earned massive praise for his impressive outings against Zimbabwe. But despite his heroics, Gaikwad was excluded from India's ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka tour.

This indicates that unless one of India's first-choice openers—Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, or Yashasvi Jaiswal—is ruled out due to injury or poor form, Gaikwad won't be considered for selection in ODIs.
