Ishan Kishan Asked For Break Due To Mental Fatigue But Found Partying By BCCI: Reports

Ishan Kishan's absence from India's T20I squad picked for the three-match series against Afghanistan may have been taken as evidence of the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter's continuing mental health break by some.

However, reports suggest there is more to the cricketer's ouster from the squad for which the selectors instead preferred Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma as the two wicketkeeping options under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

With Kishan spotted training in Vadodara this week away from the rigours of his Ranji Trophy team's first-round fixture, it seems the player is no longer on break or is certainly coming close to the end of it.

According to Indian Express, Kishan had even made himself available for selection again after opting out of the Test series in South Africa due to mental fatigue. But the cricketer was ignored for alleged disciplinary reasons, with the board authorities not pleased over how the player had spent the last few weeks.

More to why Kishan is out of the team?

It appears that the BCCI and Indian team management were taken by shock to see Kishan partying in Dubai with his friends and family during a period where he was also seen as a guest on Amitabh Bachchan's 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'

"He told the team management that he has mental fatigue because he had been on the road continuously and wanted to spend time with his family back home. Instead, he chose to travel to Dubai and was seen partying," a source privy to the developments told Indian Express.

But those close to the cricketer posed a counter-question and asked why does the board care how the player intends to recharge his batteries mentally and physically after undergoing a long frustrating phase without much game time.

"When he has been given a break, how does it matter where he spends his time? He wants to be away from the game as constant travelling and warming the bench has taken a toll mentally. And he was in Dubai for his brother’s birthday celebrations."

The report claimed Kishan was unhappy with the treatment handed out to him by the selectors and the management amidst stiff competition for slots and wanted to be rested for the T20I series against Australia, when he was among the only three players not rested after the ICC World Cup 2023.

The cricketer, who had been on the road constantly as a backup option, then wanted to skip the entire white-ball leg of the trip to South Africa but had his request declined until finally given a break before Test matches due to "personal reasons."
