Virat Kohli, the RCB and IPL legend achieved his 18-year dream on June 3 as his team captured their maiden title after defeating Punjab Kings in a closely fought contest. Kohli hs ben playing in the IPL since the inaugural season but he was elusive of the only trophy missing from his cabinet.
Kohli urged to retire from IPL
However, that dream was also fulfilled when his side did the unthinkable and for the first time in the tournament's history won the IPL title. This RCB win was compared with India's triumph at the 2011 World Cup as experts believed that Kohli and his idol, Sachin Tendulkar had similar paths as both the greats had to wait for decades to win the title they dearly craved for.
Virender Sehwag, the former India cricketer and Kohli's ex-teammate gave his ultimate verdict on Kohli's retirement plan and stated that Kohli could retire from the league since he has nothing more to achieve.
“It's the same for Virat Kohli. Now, he can be relieved. He can happily stop playing IPL whenever he wants to make that decision. A player plays to win the trophy. Money comes and goes, but winning trophies isn't easy. And even as Kohli's wait ended, he has still made a very strong contribution to their campaign," as quoted by CricketAddictor.
What Kohli has to say on his retirement?
After the IPL title was won, the official broadcaster did ask Kohli about his IPL future and this is what he had to say:
“There is an end date to our career… By the time I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had. So I look for ways to improve,” he said.
The India and RCB star is still the fittest cricketer, even at the age of 36. While it is true that Kohli has nothing more left to prove, but his presence on the field and his guidance is still needed by the franchise in upcoming seasons.
