Fans were treated to an extraordinary moment of skill and luck during Match No. 6 between Puneri Bappa and Raigad Royals of the ongoing Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Wicketkeeper Suraj Shinde pulled off a bizarre run-out in the very first over of Raigad Royals’ chase, hitting both sets of stumps with a single throw.

Insane Run-Out In MPL 2025

The incident occurred when Raigad Royals opener Siddesh Veer, facing Ramakrishna Ghosh, dabbed a ball toward the leg side and called for a risky single. However, Veer quickly aborted the run as he noticed the keeper had collected the ball swiftly. His partner, Harsh Mogaveera, meanwhile, failed to react in time and was caught ball-watching.

Suraj Shinde aimed at the striker’s end and hit the stumps directly but Veer returned in time. But in an incredible twist, the ball bounced back off the stumps and sped down the pitch to the non-striker’s end, where it clattered into the stumps again. Mogaveera was dismissed for a duck, and replays confirmed the legality of the dismissal. Watch the unique run-out here.

Not A First Time In Cricket History

It is important to mention that it was not the first time such an incident had occurred in T20 cricket. A similar freak run-out happened to Andre Russell during BPL 2022 match when the ball deflected off the stumps at one end and caught Russell short at the non-striker's end.

The dismissal is legitimised by MCC Law 38.4, which states that the batter out in such circumstances is "the one whose ground is at the end where the wicket is broken"

The ball remains in play even after hitting the stumps unless declared dead, which only happens in specific scenarios such as the batter being dismissed or an umpire calling it dead ball.
