England Women are on a roll and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s troops are showing no signs of slowing down. After sealing the T20I series 3-0, they brought out the broomsticks again to sweep the ODI series 3-0 against the West Indies, wrapping things up with a dominant win in Taunton.
Nat Sciver-Brunt Eyes World Cup Glory After England Women Whitewash Windies
With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India just around the corner, this was the perfect dress rehearsal and England Women looked more than ready to step onto the big stage.
In what turned into a rain-shortened 21-over-a-side game, England made it look like a walk in the park. After winning the toss and choosing to field first, they rolled over the Windies for just 106/8.
The hosts wasted no time in reply, chasing it down in just 65 balls and losing only one wicket. Nat Sciver-Brunt led from the front with a classy half-century as her knock oozed control and calm.
Captain’s Words After A Clean Sweep and World Cup Dream
"That's a great way to finish the series. It has rained a few times in Taunton. We wanted to have a bit more opportunity in the middle, but bowling first and the rain didn't help that," Sciver-Brunt said after the match.
But even with the weather playing spoilsport, England’s bowling attack was right on the money, giving the Windies no breathing room.
This was Nat Sciver-Brunt’s first series as captain after Heather Knight stepped down in March, and she didn’t miss a beat. With an eye on the World Cup in India, the skipper made it clear that this series was as much about experimentation as it was about results.
Sciver-Brunt Praises Her Side
"Looking at different combinations, trying things out. We have to gather information or we won't be able to explore them nearer to the World Cup," she explained.
The skipper was all praise for her squad’s depth and hunger.
"It's a pleasing thing to see that everyone given an opportunity has put their hand up," she said.
And that’s exactly what coaches and captains want: selection headaches for all the right reasons. Meanwhile, some players will now head back to domestic cricket, while others get a breather.
“Some girls have a few days off, then some domestic cricket. We'll be raring to go come India," Sciver-Brunt added, already locking eyes with the World Cup challenge ahead.
England head into the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 as one of the frontrunners. After finishing as runners-up in 2022, they will want nothing less than the title this time. But the road won’t be easy as Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa and others are all gunning for the crown.
Still, judging by how clinical they have been, England fans have every reason to dream big. With Sciver-Brunt at the helm and the squad firing on all cylinders, the World Cup can’t come soon enough for them.
