In a nail-biting finish, South Africa edged out Nepal by just one run in a thrilling low-scoring encounter to maintain their unbeaten streak in the group stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Match No.31 at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincent on June 15, 2024.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Nepal's spin duo Kushal Bhurtel (4/19) and Dipendra Singh Airee (3/21) put in a stellar performance and restricted the Proteas to a modest total of 115/7 in their 20 overs.

Nepal's chase began positively, with opener Aasif Sheikh playing an anchored innings with a steady 42 off 49 balls. The powerplay yielded 32 runs without a loss, setting a solid foundation.

Aiden Markram, after winning the low-scoring match against Nepal, stated that the team and management need to work together and learn from the mistakes.

He also said that South Africa weren't in the best of form and need to make necessary changes ahead of the Super 8 matches.

He praised the bowlers' efforts, reckoning that bowling in the right areas was important to keep Nepal under the pump.

"Very grateful to get the win. Don't think we were near our best tonight. We would have a lot to reflect in the next couple of days. Bowling in the right areas could get something off the wicket and that troubled the batters," Markram said.

"Lot of credit goes out to the bowlers tonight. The way they bowled, they put us under a lot of pressure. Our intensity was a bit low. It's about backing plans. The conditions change a lot in the Caribbean. We have to assess it early and then develop the plans," he added.

South Africa's bowlers delivered under pressure, with Tabraiz Shamsi leading the attack. He played his first match of the tournament as he performed exceptionally well and claimed the vital wicket as he finished with impressive figures of 4/19.

South Africa finished the group stage without a loss, while Nepal, despite a valiant effort, is knocked out of the tournament.
