Afghanistan have been performing exceptionally well in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, having already secured a spot in the Super 8.

However, they have faced a significant setback with the loss of their key spinner, Mujeeb ur Rahman, with a recurring finger injury ruling him out of the tournament.

The young spinner had been sidelined during IPL 2024 for the same issue. He managed to play only the opening match of the marquee tournament against Uganda before the injury flared up again due to a sprain on the index finger of his bowling hand, forcing him to miss further action.

Hazratullah Zazai Finds Place In Afghanisthan Team

Mujeeb ur Rahman's absence is a substantial loss for Afghanistan, given his impressive T20I record of 59 wickets in 46 matches at an economy rate of 6.35.

To compensate for Mujeeb's absence, Afghanistan have brought in opening batter Hazratullah Zazai.

While he is not a direct replacement for Mujeeb's bowling capabilities, his inclusion in the team strengthens and adds depth to their batting lineup with his aggressive batting style.

He is known for his explosive hitting and can provide the team with quick runs at the top of the order, which can be crucial in setting or chasing competitive totals for Afghanisthan ahead in Super 8.

Afghanistan secured their spot in the Super Eight stage by beating PNG and will face West Indies in their final group game on Tuesday (June 18) in Saint Lucia.
