The long-running public fight between former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally come to an end. Latif issued a public apology, bringing the heated situation to a surprising close.

The controversy began when Latif made strong comments linking Mohammad Rizwan’s removal as Pakistan’s ODI captain to Rizwan’s public support for Palestine.

These remarks created a storm and led the PCB to file a complaint against Latif with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

Soon after, Rashid Latif was summoned for questioning and also approached the Islamabad High Court, calling the investigation unfair.

However, on Saturday, November 22, the situation took a dramatic turn. Latif publicly stepped back from his earlier statements and acknowledged that he had made mistakes in making those assumptions.

He made it clear that he never meant to implicate any player or PCB official for wrongdoing, while also accepting his comments were not based on solid proof.

The ex-cricketer also expressed regret for bringing sensitive matters into public debate without proper proof.

PCB chairman welcomes Latif’s apology

Following his apology, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi responded by welcoming the move and said the board was ready to move forward.

Naqvi made it clear that the PCB’s actions were never meant to silence criticism but to stop the spread of false and damaging claims.

"The PCB’s action against Rashid Latif was never about silencing criticism, it was about addressing the deliberate spread of false and defamatory allegations. Our proceedings have remained fully within the law and focused solely on protecting the integrity of Pakistan cricket and its players," Naqvi said.

According to him, the board’s priority has always been to protect the reputation of Pakistan cricket and its players.

"Rashid Latif has apologised in his tweet today, clearly affirming the Board’s stance. We welcome his apology and offer a clean slate. We do not use any other means to silence those who criticise the Board. We protect Pakistan cricket and its assets," he added.

With Latif’s apology now on record, the PCB has officially declared the matter closed and offered him a clean slate.
