In the past days, rumours started circulating over the finalisation of the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams that will participate in the tournament from 2026 onwards, with Gilgit and Faisalabad said to be the cities in the media.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced their willingness to expand the league from six teams to eight teams in 2024 and recently also announced the valuation for the interested parties to bid for the teams.
However, just a day after the reports of Gilgit and Faisalabad getting new team went viral, PCB didn't take much time to refute the claims with a press release on November 20.
Pakistan shuts the rumours of new PSL teams
In the press release on Thursday afternoon, PCB clarified that as things stand, six cities continue to remain in contention to get a team in Pakistan's premier T20 tournament.
The two successful bidders will hold the right to choose the team name from any of the six cities revealed by them. They also expressed their pleasure for the interest in new franchise acquistion and revealed 11 am (local time) on December 15, 2025 to be the deadline to submit the bids.
Which are the cities in contention to get a new PSL team?
The following are the six cities, who could get a team. Two of these will be finalized by the owners:
- Faisalabad
- Rawalpindi
- Hyderabad
- Sialkot
- Muzaffarabad
- Gilgit
