The Asia Cup 2025 trophy saga has taken a dramatic turn after India defeated Pakistan in the final at Dubai International Stadium. Normally, the winning team is presented with the trophy and medals at the stadium, but this time things went differently.

Team India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, refused to accept the trophy directly from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Following this, Naqvi reportedly took the trophy and winners’ medals back to his hotel room.

Since then, the trophy and medals were handed over to the UAE Cricket Board, but there is still no clarity on when or how India will receive them. According to the Press Trust of India, the trophy is now locked at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with strict instructions that it cannot be moved or handed over without Naqvi’s personal approval.

The controversy has created a lot of tension, especially given the already strained relations between India and Pakistan following Pahalgam terror attack. After the match, Naqvi walked away with the trophy instead of following the usual ceremonial protocols, leaving the Indian team without a formal presentation. Many feel this violated ACC rules and ceremonial norms.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strongly criticised Naqvi’s actions. They argue that he broke the standard protocols for awarding the trophy and medals, causing embarrassment and undermining the integrity of the sport.

BCCI officials have said they plan to raise the issue with the International Cricket Council (ICC) at its November meeting and are even pushing for Naqvi’s removal from his ACC position. They claim his actions reflect repeated breaches of conduct, which harm the reputation of cricket administration in Asia and globally.

As of now, no official timeline has been shared about when India will get the Asia Cup 2025 trophy.
