The Indian women’s team created history in the ODI World Cup 2025 by claiming their first ever major title. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team inspired many fans to give women’s cricket equal attention and respect. Their campaign was not perfect, but they rose on big occasions to win their first title.

Star all-rounder Deepti Sharma had a major role to play throughout the tournament, which also earned her the Player of the Tournament award. She played a pivotal role for India, especially in the initial stages of the tournament. She wasn’t just the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 22 wickets in 9 games but also scored 215 runs.

She was recently present at the Global Peace Honours event along with teammate Renuka Thakur, where she shared a heartfelt message for young women aspiring to take up sports. She asked them to keep dreaming big and urged their families to always support them.

“My message to young girls is to keep dreaming big. They should be supported by their families so that they too can make their nation proud,” she said.

Deepti’s all-round performance proved vital for India

The 28-year-old’s performances in the tournament were very consistent throughout. However, she saved her best for the final clash against South Africa, where she scored a steady half-century in the first innings and then followed it up with a massive match-winning five-wicket haul in the next innings.

Meanwhile, Deepti will be the biggest star that will go under the hammer in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) auctions for the 2026 season. She played for the UP Warriorz Women till the 2025 season before being released.

Having an all-rounder of her capability will interest many teams. She is expected to be one of the biggest signings for this season when the auctions go underway on the 27th of November.
