'If I Were There..'- Sehwag Questions Rohit's Decision To Reply To 'Ball Tampering' Allegations

Ahead of India's semi-final tie against England in the T20 World Cup 2024, former India opener Virender Sehwag questioned Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's decision to break silence on 'Ball Tampering' allegations made by Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The controversy erupted after India beat Australia on June 24. Arshdeep Singh was the star with the ball as he took a three-wicket haul. Amid this, former Pakistan batter Inzamam-ul-Haq, speaking to a Pakistan channel, alleged Arshdeep of doing something with the ball as he was able to get a reverse swing.

"When Arshdeep was bowling the 15th over, it was reverse swinging. Is that too early with the new ball? This means the ball was ready by the 12th-13th over, it was capable of reversing. It was reverse-swinging in the 15th. Umpires need to keep their eyes open," Inzamam told the news channel.

On the eve of the India-England match, skipper Rohit addressed the press, where one of the reporters asked for his views on claims by Imzamam. The hitman slammed the Pakistani legend and also justified how Arshdeep was able to produce a reverse swing.

“What should I say now about this? You are playing in such hot sun, the wicket is so dry, the ball reverses automatically. It's happening for all the teams, not only ours. All the teams are reverse-swinging. Sometimes, it's important to open your mind.”

In the latest events, the reporter's action has irked Sehwag, who speaking with Cricbuzz, stated that reporters should refrain from creating controversy. He also added that if he were to be in place of Rohit, he wouldn't have replied.

“I have a problem with one thing. Someone has given a statement, even if I say something… It is not the job of a reporter to quote someone and ask others for their opinion. This is wrong. You don't have a question of your own? You want an answer to someone else's statement. You're trying to create controversy. If I were there, I wouldn't have replied at all,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
