'I Would Rate Him...': Pakistan Great Takes Brutal Dig On Babar Azam's Poor Captaincy

Ramiz Raja, a former Pakistani cricketer and cricket commentator, rated the performance of the Pakistan cricket team following their early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup. In an interaction with StarSports, Raja provided his assessment of Babar Azam's captaincy and the team's batting and bowling performances.

Pakistan managed to secure victories against Canada and Ireland in Group A, but their defeats to the USA and India resulted in their elimination before reaching the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

Ramiz Raja Comments After Pakistan's Early Departure

Ramiz Raja rated Babar Azam's captaincy as 5 out of 10. When it came to the team's batting, Raja was quite critical, giving it a score of 2 out of 10. However, he was somewhat more favourable towards the bowling performance, rating it 6 out of 10.

"Batting would be probably a two and bowling probably a six. I would rate him (Babar) about five because a captain is as good as the team and your captaincy comes through when the team is bowling, and in the bowling department, Pakistan have not done too badly. He tried his best but the others had to put in an effort as well," he responded.

He also stated that the selection committee has shown no consistency and that the preparation for the tournament was not up to the mark. He criticized the system and stated that proper practice was needed to play a big tournament like the T20 World Cup.

"There was no consistency in selection. Their preparation was hotchpotch because they didn't know who was going to open the innings. They were in that experimental mode for a very long time. Then they had to recall retired players. Even though they have been good in patches, what does it tell of the system?" Ramiz Raja replied.

Pakistan Cricket Board and the players have been heavily criticised by the former players after their exit in the T20 World Cup. Former players like Wasim Akram have asked for wholesale changes in the team.
