The run chase for Afghanistan against the West Indies in Match No.40 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia did not start well. They have lost key wickets early on, which hampered their efforts to chase down the substantial target of 219 runs set by the West Indies.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan's captain Rashid Khan chose to bowl first. However, the West Indies batting lineup proved too strong, as they posted an imposing total of 218/5 in their 20 overs.

The Afghan bowlers struggled to contain the runs, which allowed the West Indies to build a solid platform and accelerate in the later stages of the innings.

In response, Afghanistan's troubles began right from the first over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, one of their key batters, was dismissed early by Akeal Hosein.

Hosein, bowling around the wicket, delivered a low full toss around the off-stump line.Gurbaz attempted to hit it over mid-on but only managed to get it off the toe end of the bat. The ball went straight to Andre Russell at mid-on, who caught it safely, dealing an early blow to Afghanistan's innings.
