Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season owing to a right hamstring injury. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise has now roped in Mayank Agarwal as Padikkal’s replacement.

It is worth noting that Padikkal played a key role in RCB reaching the playoffs, scoring 247 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of over 150. Ahead of his departure from the team during the decisive stages of the tournament, the 24-year-old received a heartfelt speech from RCB teammate and senior man Virat Kohli.

Kohli congratulates Padikkal for prolific IPL season

In a video shared by the RCB franchise on social media, Virat Kohli can be seen expressing his gratitude towards Devdutt Padikkal. Kohli stated that Padikkal played a crucial role for the RCB in reaching the playoffs, and expressed his condolences towards the youngster for getting injured just before the knockouts. He said:

“We can’t feel what you were feeling since we were not awake till 4 in the morning because of the injury. But I know how it feels, how you must be feeling heading into the playoffs part and then whatever has to happen after. You played a massive role for us being here (in playoffs), so firstly, very well done on how you played in the tournament.”

“What you did for the team till this point. And I want to congratulate you for the way you have turned things around for yourself. Because I know for a fact when we were in Australia during the auctions, you were not sure what’s going to happen. And I had a chat with you and I said you will bat at three.”

On behalf of the entire RCB team, Virat Kohli also wished Devdutt Padikkal a speedy recovery, and even predicted that his prolific IPL 2025 season might help him reinvent his game across all formats. Kohli added:

“I have had a lot of fun working with you closely, I have enjoyed our partnerships and conversations. I want to say that, for sure with my experience that I have seen, this stint will propel you to reinvent your whole game, all over again in all formats of the game. From me, and the rest of the team, we wish you a speedy recovery. All the very best moving ahead and really, hats off to the way you batted the way you turned things around for us.”

RCB, placed at number two on the IPL 2025 points table, will now face the LSG franchise at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The match will be played on Friday, May 9.
