Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has credited Virat Kohli’s leadership as the driving force behind the transformation of India’s Test bowling unit. In a candid conversation during an episode of the RCB podcast, Bhuvneshwar praised Kohli's passion and aggressive style, saying it brought a much-needed edge to India’s Test performances.
Virat Kohli’s Aggression Helped The Bowlers
Speaking in a video shared by RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar reflected on his time under Kohli’s captaincy, especially between 2014 and 2018, when the Indian team developed one of its most formidable fast bowling attacks in modern history.
"The way Virat captained in the Test cricket, I will give credit that the way transformation happened - All credit goes to Virat, I think the reason for that is the nature of Virat on the ground, he is aggressive, his intensity in Test cricket is all you need in Test Cricket because it goes 5 days - that passion rubbed onto everyone"
Bhuvneshwar, last played a Test for India during the 2018 tour of South Africa. Despite his absence from the longest format in recent years, he remains one of the finest swing bowlers the country has produced.
Can Bhuvneshwar Kumar Make India Comeback?
The veteran pacer also opened up about the prospect of returning to the national side. Having dealt with injuries and inconsistent form in the past few years, Bhuvneshwar has seen his position in the Indian squad taken over by a younger generation of fast bowlers. Yet, he remains not much worried by the idea of a 'comeback.'
"And as much as I aim to take this number of wickets or score these number of runs in a season or achieve something, I think if it does not happen, it would lead to disappointment. If someone asks me what do I have to do to get that cap back, to come in the Indian team? I think I have to do what I have been doing till now. I do not need anything special for that. I just need to keep doing those small things that I have done over the years, and I have been doing that. But I do not have anything in my mind, whether I want to go back or not. Whatever comes my way, I will accept it," Bhuvi said in the podcast.
